The 90-day settlement period for the fill dirt that was placed on the embankments is set to end on February 8, 2010. As this milestone approaches, Powell Constructors will resume work beginning next week. The construction scheduled for the period of February 8th through February 12th, 2010 will include night work and ramp closures on Monday and Tuesday. The updated work schedule includes the following:

Majesty Cleaners: The Best Dry Cleaner serving Oak Park and Agoura Hills

The owners, Scott and Mandy, work hard to make sure their quality and customer service is top notch and it is. They offer free pick up and delivery but since they're so conveniently located at Thousand Oaks and Kanan, just a couple of doors down from Vons, it's super easy to drop off. And, since they are seriously such nice people and seem to hire only nice and efficient staff, it's always a pleasure to drop by anyway.

Please give them a try.

I read an article by Sophia Fischer in today's online edition of the Acorn. The article says that Martin Gomez "wants to make the Oak Park Community Center grow." By the way, that's a picture I took of the community center last summer.

Gomez is replacing the retired specialist who oversaw activities at the center and will oversee adult sports leagues, teen programs, facility rentals and special interest classes.

Apparently he started a couple of months ago and has already arranged some new activities including trips for seniors to theGetty Villa and the J. Paul Getty Museum, a modified paddle tennis program called pickle ball and a speaker event.

There are family and adult programs too including a Lego Robotics class and and an expanded after-school enrichment program at Oak Hills Elementary school.

I'd love to take a class in photography and I know filmmaking would be a big hit with my teenage son.Gomez earned a degree in philosophy from Cal State Northridge.

According to the article "Gomez encourages residents to visit the community center.

“This is Oak Park’s center. Come down and give us whatever ideas you might have, and we’ll try to run with it,” Gomez said. “We’re trying to make sure we have something for everybody.” "

Sounds good to me!

RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS!

The recent heavy rains remind me of how our backyard looked a couple of years back during the rainy season. Our son loved it but my advice? Keep your French Drains clean and c log-free!

  • The Shops at Oak Creek, Agoura Hills, California

The Shops at Oak Creek are coming!  Development in Agoura is always controversial ... we love the serenity of life out here away from the hustle and bustle of L.A. BUT I am excited to see the Shops of Oak Creek rising up along the freeway where Kanan meets the 101 on the north east corner!

Panda Express, Urban Cafe and Robeks are signed on already. I can't wait to see what stores are coming. Is it possible I won't have to drive to The Oaks to shop?!  We'll wait and see!

Come enjoy some holiday cheer at our HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE. Sunday from 2 to 5pm at 920 Deerhill Road in the Chambord tract of Oak Park. We'll be serving egg nog and holiday cookies.

Say hello, tour the house or simply get some area info.

Hope to see you there!

It looks like the new Farmers Market at Kanan and Agoura is a go! I noticed early on that the shopping center next door put up a handmade sign saying "No Event Parking". Pretty silly if you ask me! After all, you can't buy everything at a Farmers Market...if somebody parked in the Ralph's lot intending to go to the farmers market, they might make a stop at Ralphs to round out their shopping trip. When I drove by yesterday, I noticed a sign saying Even parking was at Agoura. There's a Shuttle bus and everything...we've hit te big time!

Cool news! A new Farmer's Market is coming to Agoura Hills.

Beginning Sunday, August 23, the market will take place weekly from 9am to 2pm at the Agoura Hills City Mall. It's on Kanan Road, just north of Thousand Oaks Blvd.  If you know where the Agoura Deli is, that's the place!

Fresh fruits, veggies, meats, fish, breads, artisan cheeses plus specialty gifts and "more".

Hope to run into you one of these days although I'm not much of a cook so that reduces the chances!

Little differences add up to big changes!

C.A.R. Green Tip of the Week: No dumping allowed
Sure, it’s convenient, but you can save 1.6 to 5 gallons of water when you don’t use your toilet as a wastebasket.

This tip from the California Association of Realtors stopped me in my tracks. I'm proud of being eco-minded - I NEVER leave the water running when I brush - but I realize I have been guilty of this little sin. On more than one occasion I've dropped a used cotton ball in the toilet simply because it was there. What a waste of water! Thanks, C.A.R. for bringing my thoughtlessness to the forefront.

Feeling guilty too? Pledge to think before you toss and use your wastebasket - not the toilet bowl - for those stray odds and ends.

By the way, if you've ever tossed your floss in the bowl, a plumber friend told me that's big no-no for your systems health. One more reason to go green!
